Prominent obesity surgeon Reza Adib has been suspended from practising medicine as he faces rape charges.
Dr Adib's registration was suspended, effective June 2, 2026, a notice posted on the Office of the Health Ombudsman (OHO) website said.
"The suspension of registration means that Vahid Reza Adib is prohibited from practising as a medical practitioner for the duration of the suspension," the website said.
It said that under the Health Ombudsman Act, the suspension would continue to have effect until the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal set it aside or it was revoked by the Health Ombudsman.
The suspension also appears on the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) website.
Dr Adib, 65, was in a relationship with former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk when he was charged last month with three counts of rape, two counts of deprivation of liberty, and one count of sexual assault.
He is accused of detaining a woman in her 30s at his Burleigh Heads apartment on the Gold Coast against her will on March 30 and of raping her three times at the property.
Court documents reveal he has surrendered his passport as a requirement of his bail conditions.
His case has been adjourned until July 7.
Dr Adib's lawyer Dan Rogers has said his client intended to "vigorously defend the charges".
Dr Adib began his relationship with former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in 2021.
There is no suggestion of wrongdoing or involvement by Ms Palaszczuk.
