BHOPAL: In a major decision, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav, on Tuesday, ordered the withdrawal of a draft provision in the proposed civil services rules that prescribes a maximum limit of two children for eligibility for government jobs. He also ordered the immediate removal of the draft from the official portal. In 2001, the general administration department had introduced a provision disqualifying candidates with more than two living children from direct recruitment and departmental appointments in government service. Under the provision, candidates having more than two living children on or after January 26, 2001, were not eligible for government service under the MP Civil Services (general conditions of service) Rules, 1961. Further, under the MP Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965, having more than two children was treated as misconduct for serving government employees. Chief minister Mohan Yadav has now directed the general administration department to immediately remove all provisions relating to disqualification from government service for having more than two living children, and to prepare and publish a revised draft.
