England vs Costa Rica kick off DELAYED as huge storms wreak havoc in Orlando A weather warning has been issued ahead of England's warm-up friendly against Costa Rica in Orlando with the pitch flooding hours before kick-off England have confirmed a delay to tonight's friendly with Costa Rica after a weather warning was issued at the stadium in Orlando. The big screen noted a weather warning and told supporters to "take shelter" as the pitch floods and England's official social media account and since communicated a delay to the game, with no time frame given. Wednesday night's game in England's final outing before they begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia in a week, but adversere weather conditions have hit Florida. Mirror Football understands that locals still believe the game will go ahead, but delays were always on the cards due to the current lightning conditions. The extreme weather conditions experienced in the USA have been a talking point ahead of this summer's tournament and players will be taken off the pitch if lightning strikes, which could lead to serious delays. Such scenarios were seen on several occasions during last year's Club World Cup in the US, with six matches halted due to electrical storms. Among those was Chelsea's clash with Benfica, which kicked off at 4.38pm local time and eventually finished four hours and 38 minutes after it had started. Then Blues boss Enzo Maresca questioned after the game had finished whether America, with its extreme weather, was a wise place to be holding summer tournaments. "If you suspend seven, eight games, that means that probably is not the right place to do this competition," he said. Stadiums in the Gulf Coast area and south east of America, which is where Orlando is situated, are likeliest to come under threat from thunderstorms. FIFA have said they will approach each match on a case-by-case basis if play is halted. Conversely heat could also be a major factor. Water breaks have been scheduled with temperatures well exceeding 30 degrees in some host cities, which will impact on games and day-to-day training. England ace Harry Kane played down concerns regarding the heat after Saturday's win over New Zealand as he claimed: "The drinks breaks help. A lot of people are talking about the heat but I don't think it's going to be as big a factor as what some people say. "Me personally and a few of of the boys who have been training for a while in it felt fine today. We're all athletes, we're all professionals and have played in warm weather conditions before."
