It does not rule out that any of these incidents are attributable to aliens Mysterious glowing red orbs and an object with beams emanating from it were among a series of unexplained UFOs reported to US officials, newly-released classified documents show. The sightings were included in 72 files, including testimony, videos and artistic depictions, published from FBI, CIA and Pentagon documents by the Department of War on Friday. Five federal law enforcement special agents in Western America described seeing a bright orb-like light with a smaller red-like orb within it over the course of two days in October 2023. “The red lights accelerated instantly and maneuvered with perfect, smooth coordination into a horizontal formation,” one agent said. “As the bright orb-like light grew larger, it expelled three or four red lights from it.” The special agent said they saw the process repeat five times within 30 minutes and added the objects moved “with purpose” in a mix of mechanical deployment and biological division and added the movement pattern appeared similar to the opening and closing of a portal, before clarifying they weren’t stating or suggesting it was. Another special agent described seeing smaller orbs “being hatched from the larger very bright orange light” so many times that they lost count “after five occurrences.” A third witness said the orbs separated like “grapes being expelled from a basketball” and recalled their partner asking, “Are you seeing this?” Nearly all of the five accounts from federal agents also included a detail about a vehicle-like object moving down a highway. The same witness who described the orb movements as portal-like said they also observed an orb “sitting on the side of the road at the crest of a hill,” and as they drove closer to it. They added: “The object began to travel west on the road as if it were a vehicle. It hovered above the right lane at approximately the height of a vehicle.” The witness and his partner drove approximately 80mph and could not keep up with it, according to the files. Another partly redacted document from February cites FBI interviews with two people who reported seeing an intense, bright light in the middle of their backyard one evening. One person "described the red colour as being brilliant and beautiful, and that [redacted] had never seen anything that color of red before". The report added that the red sphere, about 3ft wide, contained a "white plasma sun" the size of a basketball in its centre. The report added: “The witnesses described the orbs’ motion as silent and smooth, and as moving in tandem as though they were flying in formation or tethered together." Witnesses noticed a second orb and the two appeared tethered together as they moved away. They also reported seeing several white orbs a few weeks later flying over the house at a much higher altitude, the FBI report said. Similar testimony from July last year referred to previous reports of orbs. An FBI report said: "This observation occurred within 25 miles of the 'Triangle Orbs', 'Red Orb Rotation', and 'Orbs Over the Pond' sightings at a location well known to them, which is sparsely populated." An October 2024 incident describes a light source below the horizon, hovering above a pond. It said: "The luminous object resembled a 'plasma-like sphere' intermittently changing shape and luminosity. At times, the primary light source appeared to separate into smaller luminous points". Some of the UFO files date back to the 1940s and relate not just to the US, but also to parts of the rest of the world. The first two batches of files were made public on May 8 and May 22. A July 2008 sighting of a suspected UFO was also recorded at Zimbabwe's Harare International Airport. The disc-like object, which was reported as having “a series of rotating lights on the underside” and “beams” of light emanating from it, could have been “an advanced reconnaissance device belonging to a foreign government”, or “an unidentified flying object of extraterrestrial origin”, the report surmised. The FBI made no determination either way. The report added: "Of some 210 incidents, 20% have been explained. No tangible evidence which would support a theory that any incidents are attributable to activity of a foreign nation." It does not rule out that any of these incidents are attributable to aliens. Regarding the release of the documents, US defence secretary Pete Hegseth said it “demonstrates the Trump administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency”. He added: "These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fuelled speculation - and it's time the American people see it for themselves."
