'Chemical incident' sees Glasgow residents evacuated in huge emergency response A chemical incident was reported at a property on Lenzie Terrace in Springburn, Glasgow on Sunday afternoon, with the street sealed off as emergency services including hazmat crews rushed to the scene A Glasgow street has been placed on lockdown following a "chemical incident" this evening (Sunday). Emergency services rushed to Lenzie Terrace in the Springburn area after the alarm was raised at around 3.30pm on Sunday, May 31. Police Scotland officers confirmed they were responding to reports of a chemical incident at a property on the street. A stretch of the road was swiftly cordoned off as ambulance and fire crews were drafted in to help. A photograph shared with the the Daily Record captured the scale of the major emergency response. The area was visibly sealed off, with crews dressed in bright yellow protective hazmat suits spotted making their way into a block of flats. Residents have been left stunned as the incident unfolded, with some revealing they have been barred from leaving their homes. One resident said: "The street is completely blocked off and some of us aren't even allowed to leave the house." Members of the public have been urged to steer clear of the area, and anyone requiring assistance is advised to approach officers at the scene. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services are in attendance at a chemical incident at a property on Lenzie Terrace in Glasgow, which was reported around 3.30pm on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Nearby properties have been evacuated as a precaution, and the public is asked to avoid the area. "Anyone who requires assistance can approach officers at the scene or call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1991 of May 31, 2026."
