Wale will visit Canberra for a leaders meeting with Anthony Albanese. The pair are expected to discuss peace and security in the Pacific, and furthering Solomon Islands' economic development. Mon 1 Jun 2026 at 7:30am Joyce defends Hanson's record as One Nation leader says she has 'ability' to be PM Barnaby Joyce has defended his leader's parliamentary attendance record after Pauline Hanson came under fire for not showing up to Senate estimates last week. A report in The Australian outlined that the One Nation leader was absent from 88 per cent of estimates hearings over the past decade. Joyce put it down to One Nation not having any control over the committees (a member of the government of the day chairs the inquiries that make up Senate estimates). "It's obviously swayed to what they want to do. And there are times where for One Nation, they get to sit in there and it's just gobbled up by the government giving talking points," he told Seven. He argued Hanson used the time to attend other events she was invited to. It comes after Hanson wouldn't rule out running for a seat in the House of Representatives at the next election, as she said she believed she had the "ability" to be prime minister. Mon 1 Jun 2026 at 7:18am Time for Hanson to 'start talking' about delivery: Plibersek Labor frontbencher Tanya Plibersek has called on One Nation to outline how they'd deliver on their promises as she brushed off the latest polling. "Of course, we're interested in polls, but they don't drive us. What we're concerned to do is understand that people are feeling the pressure, and we are all about reducing that pressure," she also told Channel Seven. "I think if Pauline Hanson wants to be prime minister, as she said in that interview yesterday, it's time for One Nation to start talking about how they could deliver … because every opportunity they've had, they've actually voted against things that would make it easier, make life easier for Australians." Mon 1 Jun 2026 at 7:07am Joyce warns against 'hubris' but says new poll shows politics in Australia has changed One Nation recruit Barnaby Joyce says politics in Australia has changed as he welcomed the results of an opinion poll that suggested his party now has more support than Labor. The poll from the Australian Financial Review, RedBridge Group, and Accent Research suggests One Nation's primary vote sits around 31 per cent to Labor's 28 per cent. The Coalition's primary vote is at 20 per cent. Joyce says One Nation didn't want to get ahead of itself. "That'd be hubris. It's an incredible honour. It's an indicator, not a vote," Joyce told Seven this morning. "It's not One Nation that's changed. It's the Australian public that's changed. And they've changed in waves. Not an aberration. It's real, and politics has changed in Australia." Mon 1 Jun 2026 at 6:56am Voters turn to One Nation in new poll Pauline Hanson's One Nation has overtaken Labor to become the most popular political party in Australia, according to a new post-budget opinion poll. The poll from the Australian Financial Review, RedBridge Group, and Accent Research, surveyed about 1,000 voters. It suggests primary support for One Nation has jumped ahead of Labor. Kos Samaras, director at RedBridge Group and former Labor strategist, says Anthony Albanese remains preferred PM among all voters surveyed but his popularity has slid post-budget. "Australia's net response to the budget was not necessarily whether the government's doing a good job or the opposition's response is great," he told ABC's AM. "It's more, well, all I've heard post-budget is these two major parties or traditional major parties bickering amongst each other whilst I'm struggling to pay the bills."
