$6 million of cocaine found near burnt-out truck at boat ramp in Whitsundays Mon 1 Jun 2026 at 3:11pm Packages of cocaine estimated to be worth $6 million have been found floating in the sea and near the remains of a burnt-out truck at an isolated north Queensland boat ramp. In a statement police said 40 kilograms of cocaine was found at the Jimmys Rock boat ramp at Midge Point, 100 kilometres north of Mackay, about 8am on Saturday. They said the drugs had likely come from overseas. Rural fire fighters were called and arrived to find a flat-bed truck, which had a crane mounted on the back, well alight. The fire was extinguished by around 8.30am. Police were called to the boat ramp, which is only accessible by a dirt road, after the suspicious packages were found near the burning truck. "Police conducted extensive patrols of the area including on land and in nearby water," the statement said. "The public are urged to contact police should further packages be located and to not touch them." Police are asking that anyone near the boat ramp between midnight and 12.15am on Saturday with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam footage come forward.
