Multiple critical Froude numbers for the centrifugal effects on heat transport in rotating Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard convection

arXiv:2606.06116v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: The influence of centrifugal effects in rotating Rayleigh-Benard convection is investigated using direct numerical simulations. We find that the Nusselt number decreases beyond a critical Froude number, Fr_c*.

Exact output statistics of Icart's encoding in the exceptional \(j=0\) case

Announce Type: cross Abstract: Icart's encoding is a classical deterministic map from finite fields to elliptic curves and a basic ingredient in early hash-to-curve constructions. We determine the exact one-output distribution of this map in the exceptional \(j=0\) case. More precisely, for \[ E_{0,b}:Y^2=X^3+b,\ q\equiv2\pmod3, \] we compute the complete fibre distribution of \(f_{0,b}:\mathbb F_q\to E_{0,b}(\mathbb F_q)\).

Robust Random Graph Matching in Dense Graphs via an Approximate Message Passing Type Algorithm

arXiv:2412.16457v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: In this paper, we focus on the matching recovery problem between a pair of correlated Gaussian Wigner matrices with a latent vertex correspondence. We are particularly interested in a robust version of this problem such that our observation is a perturbed input $(A+E,B+F)$ where $(A,B)$ is a pair of correlated Gaussian Wigner matrices and $E,F$ are adversarially chosen matrices supported on an unknown $\epsilon n * \epsilon n$...

Well-posedness and finite element approximation of the electrostatic shear Alfv\'en wave equations

new Abstract: The aim of this paper is to study the well-posedness and finite element approximation of the electrostatic shear Alfv\'en wave equations, a coupled system of two partial differential equations arising in plasma physics as a simplified sub-model of the drift-reduced Braginskii equations. To this end, anisotropic Sobolev spaces depending on the normalized magnetic field $\b$ are introduced, together with a Poincar\'e-type inequality along the integral curves of $\b$, which holds...

A Low-rank Interpolatory Projection Algorithm for Solving Large-scale T-Sylvester Equations

arXiv:2606.05640v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: This paper considers large-scale T-Sylvester equations of the form $AX - X^\top E^\top + B_1B_2^\top = 0$, which admit a low-rank solution. It is shown that when the unique solution of the T-Sylvester equation is low-rank, the problem naturally reduces to a tangential interpolation problem via oblique projection. The specific interpolation points and tangential directions needed to obtain the low-rank solution are not known a priori, thus...

Diverse binding poses of agonistic neurotoxins on human Nav1.6

Abstract Voltage-gated sodium (Nav) channels are key targets of various venomous toxins. Deciphering the binding poses and mechanisms of action of representative toxins will help to dissect the functional mechanism of the channels and facilitate therapeutic development targeting Nav channels1,2. Here we present cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of distinct binding poses of three agonistic peptide toxins on the human Nav1.6–β1 channel complex.

A 5.3-million-year-old deep-sea whale necropolis in the Diamantina Zone

Abstract Whale falls are biodiversity oases at seabeds1,2,3,4,5,6, yet their record from the oceans has remained sparse and fragmentary6,7. Here we report the discovery of a vast whale necropolis in the Diamantina Zone (4,616- to 7,001-m depth), extending about 1,200 km along the sea floor of the southeastern Indian Ocean. This area has a deep and extensive accumulation comprising five modern natural whale-fall communities and 476 fossil cetaceans recorded.

Breaking-induced energy dissipation of surface gravity waves at varying scales and co-flowing wind stresses

Announce Type: new Abstract: Breaking-induced energy dissipation is studied for individual unsteady breaking waves using laboratory measurements of unidirectional surface gravity wave groups across a range of wave scales and wind stresses. A refined framework to estimate breaking-induced dissipation $\Delta E_{br}$ is proposed that accounts for background dissipation from non-breaking processes. Using this framework, we show that variations in wave scale primarily influence breaking...

Lignin to adipic acid in a high-yield chemical and biological redox process

Abstract Viable manufacturing pathways to produce bio-based chemicals from renewable feedstocks, such as lignin derived from plant biomass, are needed to decarbonize the chemicals manufacturing sector. Converting the recalcitrant lignin polymer to valuable bioproducts remains a longstanding challenge in biorefining, with the highest reported single-product yield from lignin currently around 20 wt% (refs. Most existing lignin depolymerization strategies target aryl–ether bond cleavage, which...
