Defects, Corrugation and Temperature Govern Rarefied-Air Drag on Graphene Coatings
arXiv:2602.00285v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: In rarefied atmospheric environments, where continuum fluid dynamics breaks down, aerodynamic drag is governed by gas-surface momentum exchange, making surface structure and chemistry key design knobs. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we show that coating the $\alpha$-Al2O3(0001) surface with graphene markedly reduces the tangential momentum accommodation coefficient (TMAC) of N2, shifting scattering toward more specular...
Everything Is Warming Up
Stacked cardboard on the assembly line during the grand opening of the Pratt Industries Macon Fruit and Vegetable Box Factory in Byron, Georgia, US, on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025. A classic strategy that could yield big dividends
Wednesday is garbage day where I live, and because of how recycling works here, we have four separate bins. One for solid waste, one for "containers" - bottles and cans, one for compost (grass clippings basically), and one for paper. These last two are the largest, but even so, somehow the one for paper is never big enough.

The Bragg Frequency Convertor: A Meeting Between Spatial and Temporal Periodicities For Selective Parametric Frequency Translation
arXiv:2603.07124v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: This study introduces the Bragg Frequency Converter, a spatiotemporal-periodic grating concept that extends conventional Bragg gratings into the dynamic domain for pure parametric frequency conversion. By selectively time-modulating either the high-index or low-index layers of a quarter-wave stack, the structure achieves directional frequency conversion: high-index modulation yields efficient down-conversion, while low-index modulation...
Design of a multifunctional Doppler backscattering diagnostic for the Pegasus-III Experiment
Announce Type: new Abstract: The Doppler backscattering (DBS) diagnostic measures flows and electron density fluctuations. Recent work indicates that DBS can also infer the magnetic pitch angle (Yeoh et al., NF 2026). We present the preliminary design of a DBS for the Pegasus-III Experiment.
School in a hot world: What research is saying about children's health and learning
School in a hot world: What research is saying about children's health and learning Lisa Lock Scientific Editor Andrew Zinin Lead Editor Climate change is making southern Africa hotter. While much attention has focused on climate impacts such as droughts, floods and food insecurity, another crisis is unfolding quietly inside classrooms. Research has shown that some schools are becoming dangerously hot places for children to develop, learn and play.
