Standpoint Logics with Defeasible Beliefs
arXiv:2606.08503v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: In this paper, we integrate the defeasible logic of Kraus, Lehmann and Magidor (KLM) with the standpoint logic framework of G\'omez \'Alvarez and Rudolph. This is done with the goal of formally expressing knowledge taking into account multiple (possibly contradicting) viewpoints, which in turn may hold defeasible beliefs. In doing so, we utilise Defeasible Restricted Standpoint Logics (DRSL), introduced by Leisegang et al.
'Whalefall' trailer is here to add getting swallowed by a sperm whale while SCUBA diving to your list of fears
The 1975 Steven Spielberg classic "Jaws" famously made several generations of people afraid of the ocean. Now, in 2026, it looks like the upcoming movie "Whalefall" is here to kickstart a whole new bunch of people who will stick to the sand next time they hit the beach. The film is based on Daniel Kraus' 2023 book of the same name, and while there's a lot of depth to the story, it's the boiled-down premise that is going to put butts in seats: man gets swallowed by a sperm whale while scuba...
Towards Non-Monotonic Entailment in Propositional Defeasible Standpoint Logic
Announce Type: new Abstract: Recent work in defeasible reasoning has seen notions of preferential semantics and entailment in the style of Kraus et al. applied to modal logics. However, work in this field has focussed primarily on satisfiability checking, and monotonic notions of entailment, which may be inferentially weak. One particular modal logic where this has been introduced is propositional standpoint logics, where modalities can express the views of different viewpoints.

Beethoven’s 200-year-old death mystery takes a shocking turn after DNA analysis
On a stormy evening in 1827, Ludwig van Beethoven died in Vienna after years of declining health that had already pulled him out of public life. He had been confined to bed for months, struggling with swelling, jaundice, and exhaustion that made even small movements difficult. By then, his hearing loss was already part of history, not just biography.

Diverse binding poses of agonistic neurotoxins on human Nav1.6
Abstract Voltage-gated sodium (Nav) channels are key targets of various venomous toxins. Deciphering the binding poses and mechanisms of action of representative toxins will help to dissect the functional mechanism of the channels and facilitate therapeutic development targeting Nav channels1,2. Here we present cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of distinct binding poses of three agonistic peptide toxins on the human Nav1.6–β1 channel complex.
