Commonwealth Fusion makes the physics case for its 400 MW reactor

The scientific community has a plan for achieving fusion power. It involves getting a better understanding of how to control fusion in a tokamak-style reactor using the currently under construction ITER reactor, and then using that knowledge to build DEMO-style plants. But ITER isn't even expected to see hot plasmas until the middle of the 2030s, by which point solar panels will be so cheap that we'll probably all be getting them free in our cereal boxes.

Start spreading the news: Datacenters may face one-year ban in NY

New York lawmakers have approved a bill imposing new labor, energy, environmental, and community-benefit requirements on datacenters, including a one-year moratorium on certain permits for facilities drawing 20 MW or more. The bill now heads to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for a signature. A spokesperson for the governor told the New York Post she would review the legislation, but gave no signal as to whether she would sign it.

The Usefulness Gap in Proof-of-Useful-Work: An Empirical Study of Pearl's cuPOW Protocol

arXiv:2606.04819v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Pearl, a Layer-1 blockchain with high-profile AI industry endorsements, markets its Proof-of-Useful-Work (PoUW) protocol as simultaneously securing the network and performing AI inference. We present the first systematic empirical measurement of a deployed PoUW system, finding that Pearl's 24 EH/s network -- representing approximately 320,000 GPU-equivalents consuming an estimated 112 MW -- produces zero useful AI computation. Budget GPU rental...

CHIMERA: A Flexible and Scalable 3.1 TOPS/W AI-MCU with Transformer Accelerator and 563 Gb/s Shared-L2 Memory Subsystem with QoS Guarantees

arXiv:2606.02358v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We present Chimera, a flexible and scalable Microcontroller Unit (MCU) designed to accelerate real-time inference of rapidly evolving transformer-based models at the ultra-low-power edge (hundred of mW). The chip, implemented in 22 nm FDX technology, integrates a transformer accelerator tightly coupled within a compute cluster featuring nine general-purpose RV32IMA cores. Scalability extends to the memory hierarchy through a novel L2 memory...

Design of an efficient Tunable Dual narrow-band MEMS Mid and Far IR emitter with Me-NTA for Industrial and Biomedical applications

arXiv:2606.05838v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Spectrally selective infrared (IR) thermal emitters are gaining much attention now-a-days for sensing, spectroscopy and biomedical applications. In this research, two metasurface incorporated IR emitters are proposed and numerically analyzed using finite element method (FEM).

EnclaveScale: Hardware-Assisted Edge-DP for Secure Data Centre Power Telemetry

arXiv:2606.09163v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: EnclaveScale is a distributed, hardware-assisted telemetry architecture providing post-extraction attestation, enabling operators to collaboratively model high-resolution generative AI power transients. Existing cryptographic techniques scale poorly for 10-Hz streaming or fail to authenticate origins, permitting malicious hosts to spoof sensor inputs. We implement and evaluate a post-extraction pipeline utilizing DCAP attestation, differential...

Core-edge integrated modeling of ARC: on the effect of impurity transport and detachment conditions

Announce Type: new Abstract: Integrated modeling of ARC H-modes has been conducted to assess the feasibility of high-performance scenarios compatible with divertor detachment. The analysis incorporates self-consistent evolution of impurity radiation and density profiles, demonstrating that fusion power levels approaching a GW can be achieved while maintaining divertor temperatures below 2 eV with Ar seeding. Sensitivity studies reveal a strong dependence of fusion power on the separatrix...
