Show HN: Mach – A compiled systems language looking for contributions
Hi HN,I'm the creator of Mach (https://github.com/octalide/mach or https://machlang.org). Two days ago, we finally achieved full self hosting. I wanted to make a post here to show off the language since this is a big milestone for us.

Mach-Zehnder based Rotational Shearing Interferometer for Non-destructive Testing using Spatial Phase-Shifting Shearography
Announce Type: new Abstract: This work introduces a novel optical setup based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, enabling spatial phase shifting shearography with rotational shear. The optical concept employs a virtual double slit configuration, which decouples the adjustment of the shear amount from the generation of the spatial carrier frequency, thereby enabling flexible control of the measurement sensitivity. Rotational shear is generated within the optical setup by means of image...
Artemis II crew flew fast, earned new patch: Astronauts' Mach 39 emblem
NASA's Artemis II crew are the fastest people alive, and now they have the patch to prove it. Mission Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen (the latter with the Canadian Space Agency) spent 10 days in early April flying by the Moon. Their journey took them farther away from Earth than any humans have gone (52,756 miles [406,771 km]) and then, on the way back on board their Orion spacecraft Integrity, they sped up to about 24,664...
Modern-day Brahmastra? How hypersonic missiles could change the rules of war
Operation Sindoor demonstrated how a supersonic weapon flying at a speed of nearly Mach 3 (3,700 kmph), or five times the speed of sound, is nearly impossible to stop. A missile flying at low level would be detected by a ground-based radar at a distance of 15 km and, at Mach 3, this would provide an early warning of around 15 seconds to impact. This compresses the decision cycle of an air defence commander.
NASA’s X-59 is about to break the sound barrier for the first time
NASA’s futuristic X-59 jet is about to face its biggest challenge yet: breaking the sound barrier for the first time. After a successful series of test flights that pushed the aircraft to near-supersonic speeds, engineers are preparing to fly it faster than Mach 1 and eventually up to Mach 1.6 at 60,000 feet. The sleek experimental aircraft is designed to replace the thunderous sonic boom with a much quieter “thump,” a breakthrough that could help bring supersonic passenger travel back over...
Michigan city launches ‘aggressive driving unit’ with undercover cop cars
Michigan city launches ‘aggressive driving unit’ with undercover cop cars The specialized enforcement strategy comes in response to feedback from residents regarding deteriorating road safety - Bookmark The Dearborn Police Department in Michigan launched a new Aggressive Driving Unit using three all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E patrol vehicles to target reckless motorists, city officials announced Monday. The low-profile electric vehicles, which made their public debut during Dearborn’s...

Anti-symmetric Multimode Waveguide Grating-Assisted Narrowband MZI for Programmable Spectral Shaping Units
Announce Type: new Abstract: We present a narrowband integrated Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) capable of precise transmission control within a targeted wavelength band while maintaining out-of-band transparency. This functionality enables its use as a fundamental building block for fully programmable on-chip spectral shaping. The device is implemented on a novel dual-mode (TE0/ TE1) transmission platform, where anti-symmetric multimode waveguide Bragg gratings (AM-WBGs) and asymmetric...
Restoring Velocity Immunity via Dynamic Mirror Compensation in a Large-Area Dual-Atom-Interferometer Gyroscope
arXiv:2605.29929v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: We propose and demonstrate a dynamical mirror compensation scheme to restore velocity immunity in a large-area dual-atom-interferometer gyroscope. In an ideal Mach-Zehnder configuration, the phase shift is inherently immune to atomic velocity, but this property is broken by the Earth's rotation via the Coriolis effect. We overcome this by actively rotating the Raman mirrors during the pulse sequence to cancel the time-dependent angular offset.
