A new documentary brings things home for the author of Dark Emu
Debuting at the Sydney Film Festival, Grace McKenzie's Yumburra is a lyrical ode to doing things differently Fri 5 Jun 2026 at 4:30am Dark Emu author Bruce Pascoe is the living embodiment of practising what you preach. He used the proceeds of his award-winning 2014 book to purchase an idyllic stretch of farmland on the Wallagaraugh River, where he tested his theories. The best-selling book refutes the colonial myth, used to justify the slaughter of terra nullius, that Aboriginal and Torres...
You Don't Love Systemd Timers Enough
Figure 1: Plato's Cave by Jan Pietersz Saenredam; 24 hour clock licensed under CC3 from Wikimedia; systemd logo by the systemd project licensed under CC-BY-SA 4.0 My favorite metonymic technology term is "cron job": even though cron may not literally be the daemon that executes actions on a schedule, we apply the term to anything that walks like a cron and quacks like a cron . As Patrick McKenzie likes to point out, cron jobs are one of the most eminently useful computing primitives. They...
Everyone is Lying to You for Money is a must-watch exposé of crypto
In a 2021 ad that ran during the Super Bowl – one of the most-watched TV programmes in the US – the actor Matt Damon walks through a hall displaying some of humanity’s greatest achievements and says, with extreme gravitas, “Fortune favours the brave.” The words crypto.com flash on the screen. The not-at-all-subtle implication is that you too can have it all and do something historic; don’t worry about the risk.

NZ lock up Super Rugby semis as Crusaders, Chiefs and Blues progress June 6 : The Canterbury Crusaders and Waikato Chiefs joined the Wellington Hurricanes in the Super Rugby Pacific semi-finals on Saturday, taking the Auckland Blues through with them after the Queensland Reds failed to break Australia's playoff hoodoo. Johnny McNicholl scored a hat-trick of tries as the Crusaders overpowered the Blues 52-31 in Christchurch before the Chiefs downed the Reds 46-24 in Hamilton to ensure the...
Pulisic an 8/10, USMNT's best player in pre-World ...
Christian Pulisic nabbed a goal and an assist in the first half before Folarin Balogun's eventual game-winning goal in the second half paced the U.S. men's national team in their 3-2 friendly win Sunday against Senegal at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Pulisic set up Sergiño Dest's opener before scoring one himself to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead before Sadio Mané scored on both sides of halftime in a chaotic second half that was decided by Balogun's goal. Of course, this was the first of...
USMNT builds World Cup momentum by beating Senegal...
As dress rehearsals go, the performance from the U.S. men's national team against Senegal was a bit all over the place. The USMNT jumped out in front 2-0 on goals by Sergiño Dest and Christian Pulisic, only for Sadio Mané -- with the help of some suspect U.S. defending -- to even the match with a pair of goals. It was left to substitute Folarin Balogun to put the U.S. back in front, converting Timothy Weah's cross in the 63rd minute for the eventual game-winner in a 3-2 victory.
Future Power Rankings: How all 68 Power 4 college football teams stack up
Projecting a college football program's future is harder than ever. Rosters and fortunes change dramatically and championship pathways are more open than ever. The assets that make a program great in 2026 might not be there in 2027.
American soccer still has a global stigma: Can the USMNT at this World Cup change that?
Eric Wynalda had reached his breaking point. The year was 1992, and "everybody" at then-Bundesliga side FC Saarbrucken, including Wynalda's teammates, had regaled him with taunts of "scheiss Ami" or German for "s--- American." After six weeks of hearing this, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

Life in the ACC certainly isn't boring. In the past year alone, the conference has produced a long and awkward CFP rankings battle, an irate affiliate member, a thrilling national title game run, the strangest tiebreaker result imaginable, an out-of-nowhere 11-win season, the most disappointing team in the country, an epic pro-to-college face-plant, 18 of the 38 best games of the 2025 season, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft (indirectly) and the most awkward possible move to nine-game...
