Beyond Ground Truth in K-Complex Detection: A Waveform-Based SVM Classifier and the Limits of Expert Agreement

Objective: K-complexes (KCs) are large-amplitude EEG events that represent N2 sleep stage and have been linked to sensory gating, sleep protection, and memory consolidation. Their detection remains limited by inter-rater variability in visual scoring and by the reliance of detectors on features that discard temporal information. We propose a two-stage detector that combines a rule-based candidate localization algorithm with a Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier operating directly on the...

Defects, Corrugation and Temperature Govern Rarefied-Air Drag on Graphene Coatings

arXiv:2602.00285v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: In rarefied atmospheric environments, where continuum fluid dynamics breaks down, aerodynamic drag is governed by gas-surface momentum exchange, making surface structure and chemistry key design knobs. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we show that coating the $\alpha$-Al2O3(0001) surface with graphene markedly reduces the tangential momentum accommodation coefficient (TMAC) of N2, shifting scattering toward more specular...

Serverless5GC: Private 5G Core Deployment via a Procedure-as-a-Function Architecture

arXiv:2603.27618v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Open-source 5G core implementations deploy network functions as always-on processes that consume resources even when idle. This inefficiency is most problematic in private and edge deployments with sporadic traffic. Serverless5GC is an architecture that maps each 3GPP control-plane procedure to an independent Function-as-a-Service invocation, allowing scale-to-zero operation without modifying the standard N2 interface.

From Networks to Traveling Waves and Back: Persistent Pattern Generation Across Collective Phases in C. elegans

Thousands of C. elegans placed adjacent to a food patch self-organize sequentially into a visible branching network off-food and then a coherent traveling consumption wave -- a multi-phase collective phenomenon we term wurmuration. Dynamical networks and traveling waves have previously only been described separately in this organism. Using a minimal agent-based model, we show that a single generative program produces both collective phases and their topological continuity.

Breeding pig transport drives the dispersal of swine influenza A virus across Europe

Pigs serve as reservoirs of former human influenza A virus (IAV) H1N1 and H3N2 lineages and act as mixing vessels for diverse strains, facilitating the emergence of novel IAVs. Understanding the spread and evolution of swine IAVs (swIAVs) is therefore crucial to assess the risk of strains with zoonotic potential emerging. This study uses a phylogeographic framework to investigate the predictors of swIAV dispersal across Europe.

A first-in-class pulsatile FXR agonist for bile-acid-related liver diseases

Abstract Nuclear receptors are central regulators of metabolism1, yet therapeutic strategies that enforce continuous receptor activation frequently lead to reduced efficacy and unacceptable toxicity. Here we report a first-principles drug design strategy that aligns pharmacokinetics with physiological signalling cycles. We developed linafexor, a potent non-bile-acid agonist of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR)2; it is engineered for rapid systemic clearance, which enables pulsatile receptor...

Quilting the Brain: Whole-Brain iEEG Reconstruction via Incomplete Observation Linear Mixed Models

Mapping human brain function at high spatiotemporal resolution is constrained by the physical limitations of non-invasive imaging and the sparse sampling of invasive electrophysiology. While intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) captures local field potentials with millimeter precision, clinical implantation strategies result in a ``coverage paradox'': observations are restricted to disjoint, patient-specific patches, leaving most of the cortex unobserved. This study introduces the...

Quantum computing for accurate large-scale electronic-structure calculations: DFT-embedded, post-processed quantum-selected configuration interaction

arXiv:2606.06015v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We present a multilevel embedding framework for quantum chemistry calculations on a quantum computer. In our framework, a quantum algorithm treats the strongly correlated active space, while a high-level wave-function method such as coupled cluster theory or multireference perturbation theory recovers the remaining correlation in the surrounding region. A sampling-based quantum algorithm, quantum-selected configuration interaction, bridges the...
