The NF-operator and the NF-Numbers of Simplicial Complexes
arXiv:2605.30781v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Let $\bigtriangleup$ be a simplicial complex and let $\delta_{\mathcal{NF}}$ denote the NF-operator. The NF-complex $\delta_{\mathcal{NF}}(\bigtriangleup)$ is defined as the Stanley--Reisner complex of the facet ideal of $\bigtriangleup$. Iterating $\delta_{\mathcal{NF}}$ gives a periodic orbit (up to isomorphism), and the smallest positive integer $t$ for which $\delta_{\mathcal{NF}}^{\,t}(\bigtriangleup)\cong \bigtriangleup$ is called the...
Neural Navigation Functions for Zero-Shot Generalizable Motion Planning
arXiv:2606.03756v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We introduce Neural Navigation Functions (Neural-NF), a learned reactive navigation function capable of zero-shot transfer across unseen environment geometries. Neural-NF places data-driven adaptation within a structured elliptic planner, where the navigation objective is learned while planner structure is preserved by construction. Specifically, intrinsic Laplacian-derived features are mapped to local PDE coefficients, and solving the...
High-severity vulnerability in Linux caused by a single errant character
Researchers have analyzed a high-severity vulnerability in Linux that’s able to escalate untrusted users to root by exploiting a bug you don't often see: a single errant character inside the kernel. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-23111, is located in nf_tables, a subsystem of the Linux kernel that provides packet filtering capabilities. It’s used to manage firewall rules and replaces older subsystems such as iptables, ip6tables, arptables, and ebtables. !!!
Design of a multifunctional Doppler backscattering diagnostic for the Pegasus-III Experiment
Announce Type: new Abstract: The Doppler backscattering (DBS) diagnostic measures flows and electron density fluctuations. Recent work indicates that DBS can also infer the magnetic pitch angle (Yeoh et al., NF 2026). We present the preliminary design of a DBS for the Pegasus-III Experiment.
Electrically Tunable Heliconical Smectic Superstructure in Polar Fluids
arXiv:2512.05517v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: The ferroelectric nematic (NF) phase and related polar liquid-crystalline phases form a new class of strongly polarized yet fluid soft matter. Well-recognized heliconical ferroelectric phases such as NTBF and SmC_P^H exist, but their electro-optic functionality in smectic systems has been largely unexplored. Here, we report a newly designed single-component achiral molecule exhibiting a hierarchical polar phase sequence:...
Latent Reasoning with Normalizing Flows
arXiv:2606.06447v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Large language models often improve reasoning by generating explicit chain-of-thought (CoT), demonstrating the importance of intermediate computation. However, textual CoT forces this computation through a discrete, serial, and communication-oriented token stream: each reasoning step must be verbalized before the model can proceed, even when the underlying update is semantic, uncertain, or only partially formed. Latent reasoning offers a...
Piezo1 transduces mechanical signals to inhibit osteoclast fusion and coordinate bone homeostasis
Osteoclasts originate from bone marrow-derived macrophages, and their maturation relies on fusion of pre-osteoclasts into mature osteoclasts that maintain bone homeostasis. Previous studies established that mechanical signals regulate osteoblast activity in bone homeostasis, although whether such signals regulate bone homeostasis by acting on osteoclasts remains unclear. Herein, membrane tension decreased during pre-osteoclast fusion, accompanied by reduced Piezo1.
Salivary microRNA Profiling of Long COVID Subjects Reveals Host-Encoded Regulators of Inflammation and Viral Persistence
Periodontal disease (PD) and SARS-CoV-2 infection converge upon shared immunoinflammatory axes, yet the molecular mechanisms underpinning their interplay remain insufficiently characterized. Herein, we delineate a comprehensive salivary microRNA (miRNA) repertoire from convalescent individuals with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection sampled 3-6 months post-diagnosis who fulfilled criteria for post-acute sequelae of COVID-19, yielding novel insights into the post-viral oral milieu. Salivary miRNA...
p38 dependent IL-33 responses define a conserved inflammatory programme in mast cells
Interleukin-33 (IL-33) is a key cytokine in mast cell mediated immunity, promoting inflammatory cytokine production without inducing degranulation. Here, we compared IL-33 induced proteomic responses across three mast cell culture systems, Foetal Liver derived Mast Cells (FLMCs), Bone Marrow derived Mast Cells (BMMCs), and Peritoneal Mast Cells (PMCs), using quantitative data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry. Although baseline proteomes were largely conserved across all mast cell...
Nuclear confinement from matrix stiffness drives epigenomic reprogramming of gingival fibroblasts
Periodontal disease is characterized by progressive degradation of the gingival extracellular matrix and loss of the physical confinement it imposes on resident stromal cells. In human periodontal tissue, ECM collagen integrity is inversely correlated with facultative nuclear histone acetylation in stromal cells. We hypothesized that matrix stiffness directly coordinates an epigenomic shift in stromal cells.
