RCM-ACT: Imitation Learning with Dynamic RCM Calibration for Autonomous Intraocular Foreign Body Removal

arXiv:2508.19191v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Intraocular foreign body removal demands millimeter-level precision in confined intraocular spaces, yet existing robotic systems predominantly rely on manual teleoperation with steep learning curves. To address the challenges of autonomous manipulation, particularly kinematic uncertainties from variable motion scaling and Remote Center of Motion (RCM) point variation, we propose RCM-ACT, an imitation learning framework for autonomous...

Amplified Arctic iceberg traffic reshapes benthic biodiversity

Abstract The Arctic is undergoing rapid warming, resulting in retreating sea ice and glaciers1, yet how cryospheric changes propagate into the deep ocean remains poorly understood2. Here we identify a climate-driven mechanism linking accelerating glacier disintegration to an increase in deep-sea hard-bottom habitats far beyond calving fronts. Seafloor observations in Fram Strait show a localized increase in the density and patchiness of dropstones delivered by debris-laden icebergs.

Light-induced quantum friction of carbon nanotubes in water

Abstract Friction slows down moving objects at both macroscopic and microscopic scales1. At the electronic level, quantum friction describes direct transfer of momentum between a liquid and the electrons of a solid2. Owing to its microscopic nature, this phenomenon remains experimentally challenging to capture3.

Student astronomer discovers 'Rosetta Stone' for mysterious cosmic signals

Student astronomer discovers 'Rosetta Stone' for mysterious cosmic signals Sadie Harley Scientific Editor Robert Egan Associate Editor An international team led by astronomers at the University of Sydney has uncovered the clearest evidence yet for the origin of an unusual class of cosmic signals. In doing so, they have identified a rare stellar system that is providing scientists with a natural laboratory to study extreme physics. Using CSIRO's ASKAP radio telescope, the team discovered a...
