Magnitude 6.2 earthquake shakes southern Italy

The strong tremor was felt across much of southern Italy, with its epicentre offshore. According to Italy's INGV, the area is prone to frequent deep seismic activity and has previously recorded quakes above magnitude 5. A strong earthquake tremor was felt across much of southern Italy shortly after midnight on 2 June.
