The Image Reconstruction Game: Drawing Common Ground Through Iterative Multimodal Dialogue

arXiv:2606.01901v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We introduce the Image Reconstruction Game, a fully automated benchmark in which a vision-language model issues corrective instructions to an image generator across multiple turns, making accumulated common ground directly observable as a rendered image. Benchmarking two Describer models crossed with two Generator models across seven image categories, we find that the describer is the dominant factor in reconstruction quality, while the...

Feds unwittingly leak pilots' pre-crash conversation

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released a spectrographic image derived from the cockpit audio of a UPS plane crash, despite a policy against releasing such recordings. Technically skilled individuals were able to reconstruct approximate audio from the image, prompting the NTSB to acknowledge the privacy breach. The board stated that federal law prohibits the public release of sensitive cockpit communications.

Ahoy, DECmate II the little PDP-8 that could

Now, that's a lot of word processing. But under the hood it's still at least PDP-8 adjacent, even considering its oddities and incompatibilities, and you can make it do many of the things a full-size Eight can. We'll take this basic unit, convert the floppy drives to solid state, tap the video output, and put it through its paces.

Recent Advances and Trends in Learning-based 3D Representations

arXiv:2606.04871v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: The selection of an appropriate 3D representation is a fundamental design decision that dictates the efficiency, quality, and capabilities of modern computer vision and graphics pipelines for tasks such as 3D reconstruction, novel-view synthesis and rendering, shape and motion analysis, recognition, and generation. While traditional representations (\eg meshes, point clouds, and volumetric grids) remain standard outputs of 3D sensors (\eg LiDAR...

Great mysteries of archaeology: An ancient Amazonian world revealed from the sky

Great mysteries of archaeology: An ancient Amazonian world revealed from the sky Gaby Clark Scientific Editor Andrew Zinin Lead Editor From the air, you see it only through the constant jolt, tilt, and shudder of the low-flying Cessna aircraft. The landscape of the Llanos de Moxos, northern Bolivia, appears as a disconnected patchwork of open grassland savannahs, forest islands, and lakes. It feels random, almost unreadable.
