When it comes to kids' TV there is no bigger star than Mr Tumble - but what about the man behind the household name? For years, little was known about 55-year-old Justin Fletcher's life away from the cameras. But it's now emerged that he's fallen for one of his co-stars - with the pair said to be 'madly in love'.
Justin is currently dating Samantha Dorrance, a fellow performer who plays the role Tootsie , his alter-ego's best friend, on Something Special. And the 20-year age gap between the pair apparently isn't an issue for Justin and Samantha, who has reportedly now moved into the star's £2.5 million farm house. In recent photos, the couple were seen together for the first time checking into The Mount Country Manor Hotel & Golf in Wolverhampton.
An insider told The Sun: "Justin and Samantha's friends are thrilled they have found love with each other. For Justin, Samantha is 'The One'. Justin was single for a while before he reconnected with Samantha and it went from there. Friends know about the relationship, as well as their castmates on the tour. It's wonderful to see Justin so happy. Samantha is the best thing that has ever happened to him.
"They enjoy a quiet life on the farm when they're not out performing. The farm is their sanctuary and where they both feel happiest."
Samantha, who was in her late teens when she made her West End debut in Dreamboats and Petticoats, landed the role of Tootsie more than a decade ago. The pair have also starred together in pantomime over the years, and, when appearing together in a festive production of Cinderella almost two years ago, Samantha captioned a photo: "I couldn't ask for a better Buttons."
The 34-year-old does occasionally refer to Justin on social media, but not by name - instead choosing to call him her 'partner'. Last year, she wrote on Instagram: "Last year, me and my partner hatched our own chickens I was making breakfast one morning and noticed all the eggs we had been buying from our local honesty box were fertilised. My partner just so happened to have an old incubator, so we dug it out."
She first referenced their relationship last August, posting photos from the farm and writing on Instagram: "The little things. Dancing on the beach at sunset, planting seeds on a lazy afternoon and hanging with our glorious chickens."
Justin has previously spoken about his long struggle to find love. He told the Mirror in 2012: "I'm not married, live alone and have been single for a while now because I've been a workaholic filming Something Special, Justin's House and Gigglebiz. But I do want to free up some time for myself and my family. I'd love to have children, so I need to find someone who likes kids. A couple of kids would be lovely."
At the time, the star did reveal he had become something of a hit with mums, however, and admitted that he has received some marriage proposals. "Er, yes, I have had emails!" he said.
Justin started his career at the BBC in 1999, voicing characters on the Tweenies and presenting on pre-school kids’ show Tikkabilla. In 2003 he started Something Special, playing Mr Tumble.
It is the longest-running CBeebies show and includes Makaton, a language programme that uses signs, symbols and speech aimed at children with communication difficulties.
Something Special has earned Justin two Bafta TV awards, and in 2008 he was awarded an MBE for services to children’s broadcasting and the voluntary sector.
He has also been the voice behind other TV characters, including Doodle and Jake in Tweenies, Miguel in Finley the Fire Engine, Sleeping Bear and Growling Tiger in CBeebies' Boo!, Shaun the Sheep and Harold from Thomas the Tank Engine.
Justin had an impressive upbringing as he often found himself around famous musicians, which has inspired his characters in TV. He is the son of Guy Fletcher, who wrote songs for Cliff Richard, Ray Charles, The Hollies and even Elvis Presley. He added: "I was always brought up around musicians and we had a recording studio built onto the house. My character Cliff Tumble is a homage to Sir Cliff, who I've met a lot and is lovely, very charming.
"Dad wrote his Eurovision entry Power to All Our Friends. The biggest hit he wrote for Elvis was Just Pretend, which he used to perform in his Vegas shows. Pretty cool, really."
Justin's loveable characters have turned into a multi-million-pound industry, with his Something Special DVD alone selling more than 100,000 copies, raking in more than £1million, and a magazine brings in around £180,000 a month. His estimated worth stands at an impressive £1.5million.
