A huge fire has caused thick black smoke to pours into the sky over the city centre with residents in Sheffield warned to keep their windows and doors closed
A huge city centre blaze has sparked a warning from firefighters telling residents in Sheffield to keep their windows and doors closed as crews tackle the flames.
Thick, black smoke can be seen billowing from a building in Sheffield city centre with the fire said to have broken out at a building near Hollis Croft and Rockingham Street.
Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to avoid the area as firefighters battle to try and bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is not yet known and there are no confirmed reports of any injuries at this stage.
A fire service spokesperson said: "Firefighters are currently in attendance at a fire on Garden Street, Sheffield. Anyone living or working nearby should keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area. Please avoid the area while crews work to bring this incident to a safe conclusion."
