Will Day drills a set shot from right on the 50m arc and he's absolutely MOBBED by his teammates!

Watson gets out the back to put Hawks in front
Nick Watson is looking as dangerous as ever out here tonight!
He gets out the back of congestion on the wing and speeds away, combining with Connor Macdonald.
Macdonald's kick to Mitch Lewis inside 50 is a shocker, but Lewis picks it up off his shoelaces and dishes the handball off to Watson, who kept running, and the Wizard kicks an easy one.

West volleys the Bulldogs in front!
We've got FIFA World Cup fever in this quarter baby!
The Dogs finally get a centre clearance as Marcus Bontempelli and Tim English combine.
English sends a ball forward and this time Rhylee West reads the ball well off the back of a marking contest and volleys it home from mid-air after the bounce.
The Dogs are up 3-1 in centre clearances for the quarter.

Reeves strikes after harsh 50m penalty
Oh man, this is a stiff, stiff penalty to pay for some a small indiscretion.
Ned Reeves takes a mark on the wing and Joel Freijah sprints to try and man the mark, the umpire says he's encroached upon the restricted area and blows for a 50m penalty.
That brings Reeves to within striking distance and he nails the easy set shot.

QT: Hawthorn 2.2 (14) leads Western Bulldogs 2.0 (12)
There's a scuffle between the two teams as the quarter-time siren sounds at the MCG!
It starts with Nick Watson and Michael Sellwood and it's now exploded.
This is getting dangerously close to the crowd as well as players throw some jumper-punches on the wrong side of the boundary line.
Hawthorn skipper James Sicily in there having a few choice words as well.
What an interesting opening quarter that was!
The Hawks smashed the Dogs early around the ground, dominating possession and winning the first 10 clearances of the match, but the Dogs are right in this contest.
Jai Newcombe has been outstanding so far. He leads all players with 13 disposals and has three clearances as well.
Bailey Dale leads the way for the Bulldogs with 11 disposals and also kicked one of the Dogs' two goals.
Dogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli was very quiet in that first term, held to just five disposals, while Jack Ginnivan was held to just three touches.
A little bit of an injury concern for the Hawks as Mitch Lewis came off the ground with an ankle issue, but I think he'll be alright to continue. Was able to break out into a mini-jog as he exited the field.

Croft strikes after Bulldogs force turnover
Jordan Croft kicks an easy goal out the back of Hawthorn's defence after a horror turnover in the middle of the ground.
The Bulldogs will feel really good about being down by just two points given the clearance count reads 9-0 the Hawks' way.
Sometimes that's the name of the game, just gotta hang around when momentum isn't quite with you.

Macdonald continues Hawthorn's fast start
Connor Macdonald drills a set shot from 40m out virtually directly in front to give the Hawks an eight-point lead.
The Hawks are all over the Dogs right now. They lead the inside 50 count 9-4 and have 62 disposals to 30.
Jai Newcombe running hot, he's up to seven disposals and two clearances already.

Watson with the quick reply for Hawthorn
The Wizard is up and running at the MCG!
It's not the cleanest of forward 50 entries for the Hawks but Watson finds himself in tons of open space around 45m out from goal and then finishes the deal on the run.
You can't give Nick Watson that amount of space. Bevo won't be happy with that defence.
Fri 5 Jun 2026 at 7:48pm
Dale with a brilliant finish after winning free kick
Bailey Dale threads the needle from the pocket with a brilliant set shot after winning a free kick!
The Hawks fans aren't too happy with that free, but it was there I think as Josh Battle came in a little bit too high, although Dale was searching for the contact.

Mabior Chol has the first score of the night, it's a behind on the run from a tough angle.

Weightman all smiles as the Bulldogs make their way out
Imagine what Cody Weightman is feeling right now as he runs out for his first match in 637 days.
Weightman full of smiles and has a few high fives from his teammates as he runs through the banner.
He looks around to take in the sight that is a capacity crowd in at the MCG.

The Hawks make their way out in darkness
The atmosphere is palpable at the MCG as the lights are shut off for the Hawthorn entrance.
Let's hope we've got a capacity crowd in tonight for this one, because it could be a bit of a classic.
The Hawks going through their pre-match paces with the bounce just over 10 minutes away.

Walker's push was definitely strange
I found Taylor’s push really strange. It was blatant , unnecessary , and he must have known he would get pinged. You wonder sometimes ?
- Phillip
You're right, Phillip, it was a curious play to say the least.
In the end he's very lucky that he didn't end up hurting his captain Jordan Dawson in the process.
A bit of a brain fart from Tex.

Beveridge excited to have Weightman back in the line-up
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge is thrilled to have Cody Weightman back in his side.
Weightman, who had become one of the league's most damaging small forwards before his injury, hasn't played a game at the AFL level since the elimination final in 2024.
"There's a bit of conjecture around whether he should or shouldn't [play], but obviously people don't rate him as highly as we do," Beveridge tells Fox Footy.
"If you see the way he trains and prepares, it's just a no-brainer."
