The man in his 30s, believed to be Somalian, has been taken into custody following the serious assault involving a knife in the Kinnaird Avenue area of north Belfast on Monday night, 8th June, shortly after 10.30pm. A man in his 40s is currently in hospital in a serious condition with significant injuries to his face, neck and back. An area outside an apartment complex off Kinnaird Avenue near lower Antrim Road remained cordoned off this morning with evidence markers on the ground where the attack took place. Sir Keir Starmer said the attack in Belfast is “sickening” and added he will have “absolutely no tolerance for abhorrent scenes of violence like this on our streets”. North Belfast MLA Nuala McAllister also condemned the "depraved attack". She said: "I am horrified by the footage emerging from North Belfast, depicting some of the most depraved and barbaric violence I have ever seen." North Belfast MP John Finucane said “I am shocked following a horrific attack in north Belfast last night.” “My thoughts are with the individual who has been taken to hospital following serious injuries, and I hope they make a full recovery. “I have spoken with police today and would urge anyone with information about this appalling attack to come forward and assist the investigation.” A spokesperson for PSNI said: "Police in north Belfast are currently in attendance at Kinnaird Avenue following the report of a stabbing incident shortly after 10.30pm on Monday 8th June." "A man has been arrested in relation to the incident and is in police custody while a second man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries." "Officers will remain in the area to conduct their enquiries and would ask anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have captured dash-cam or CCTV footage from the area which could help with their investigation, to call them at Tennent Street on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1654 08/06/26."
