US says it's begun launching strikes against Iran
Good morning, thank you for being with us as we bring you this breaking news.
The US military says it has begun launching "self-defence" strikes against Iran at the direction of the commander in chief.
In a post on X, the US Central Command said the strikes were in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter on Tuesday morning, local time.
"The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression," the post said.
Two crew members aboard the helicopter were rescued by a US sea drone after the aircraft crashed near the Strait of Hormuz.
