He said the incident is causing “a lot of alarm” within the community but that there are “no injuries as far as I’m aware". Local people have described the village where a police cordon remains as a "lovely" and "very quiet" place. Residents reportedly heard three gunshots in Newbold Verdon just before 10.30pm last night. Patricia Brown and David Browning have lived in the village for 60 years. They said Newbold Verdon is a "lovely" and "very quiet" place with "no crime at all". Ms Brown said: "We have lived here for 60 years and we’ve had no trouble. It’s a shame because it doesn’t happen here. It makes a change." David added: "I'm quite surprised, but then again, if people move in you don’t know what their character is, do you?" Another resident in Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire, says that the incident has left him feeling a 'bit nervous". The man said: “These sorts of things don’t happen in places like this, you’d expect this to happen in places like Leicester. It makes me feel a bit nervous really.” A man has said that it is the “first time” something like this has happened in Newbold Verdon and it has left him feeling “a bit nervous”. He said: “It does come as a shock - I’ve lived here for several years. This is the first time something like this has happened in our village.” This incident has resulted in a road closure as a police cordon has been put in place. Leicestershire Police are at the scene in Newbold Verdon’s Brascote Lane.
