Popular UK seaside town hotel plunges into administration as holidaymakers updated This popular hotel has entered administration after closing for refurbishment in 2022 A long-shuttered seaside hotel in south Devon, which had been expected to welcome guests again following a major refurbishment, has reportedly gone into administration. According to a notice published by The Gazette, the UK's official public record, administrators were appointed on June 5. Joint administrators from Richard J Smith & Co have since been brought in, with Jonathan David Trembath and Samuel Adam Bailey leading the process from the firm's Ivybridge office in Devon. The Quayside Hotel, situated on King Street and overlooking the harbour in Brixham, near Torquay, closed its doors in late 2022 for an extensive overhaul of its rooms, dining spaces and wider facilities. The hotel had been due to reopen last year, heralding a "new chapter" for the historic waterfront venue. Yet the hotel never resumed trading and has now fallen into administration, BusinessLive reports. The property also boasted a bar and restaurant. On its website, the hotel previously described itself: "Perched on the hillside, our charismatic Quayside Hotel, dates back to the 18th century with unbroken views of Brixham harbour. Located in the centre of Brixham next to the beautiful harbourside and famous fishing town, it's minutes from the beach and steps from the town centre. "Here, at our Brixham hotel, you can discover some of Britain's most beautiful South Devon beaches, stunning coastal walks along the English Riviera, award-winning food, four-poster beds, sea view rooms on request, free Wi-Fi, and live entertainment. "What's more, of all the hotels in Brixham, our Brixham hotel has one of the best, central locations nestled in the harbour where you can watch fishing trawlers bring in their day's catch. Enjoy beautiful views from the Quayside Restaurant and Ernie Lister bar, then retire to your bedroom for a peaceful, uninterrupted night's sleep.", reports the Express. The hotel boasts an impressive 4.3-star rating on Google, with guests singing its praises across the board. One visitor shared their experience: "A lovely 3 night stay, comfortable bedroom overlooking the harbour, very friendly staff and excellent food, both breakfast and evening meal. A special mention to Jacqui and Earl where nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Can highly recommend! We will definitely return." A second guest echoed the sentiment, writing: "Lovely quirky place. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Definitely will be coming again."
