Brits' biggest fragrance turn-offs that could be relationship dealbreakers Wearing too much perfume or aftershave, smelling 'like an air freshener' and using deodorant instead of showering after exercise are the nation's biggest fragrance 'icks', according to new Aldi research Wearing too much perfume or aftershave, smelling 'like an air freshener' and using deodorant instead of showering after exercise have been unveiled as the nation's top three fragrance 'icks'. Dousing yourself in fragrance (37%) and 'smelling like an air freshener' (37%) jointly topped the list of turn-offs for Brits. Close behind was using deodorant instead of showering after exercise (36%), according to the Aldi research. It seems poor fragrance habits could be having a knock-on effect on Brits' love lives, as two-fifths (40%) would consider turning down a second date because of someone's perfume or aftershave. For some, unpleasant scents are an even bigger relationship dealbreaker, with nearly one in 10 (9%) confessing they've ended a relationship over their partner's choice of fragrance. Of the 2,000 Brits surveyed, 19% said people wearing 'TikTok made me buy it' scents ranked among their biggest fragrance red flags. Social media continues to influence fragrance shopping habits, with 21% discovering new scents online and 19% admitting they've purchased a fragrance off the back of social media content. Despite having firm views on fragrance faux pas, Brits are increasingly ditching pricey designer scents in favour of budget-friendly alternatives. Research revealed two-thirds of Brits (67%) believe cheaper perfumes and aftershaves smell better than their luxury counterparts. More than half (57%) said they've received more compliments when wearing affordable fragrances than designer ones. Fragrance adverts continue to wield considerable influence, with a third of Brits (32%) admitting they've purchased a fragrance after seeing an advert without even smelling it first. Aldi has now released the 'Aldi Fragrance Advert', a tongue-in-cheek ad taking aim at over-the-top luxury fragrance commercials. The short ad, inspired by classic designer fragrance adverts but set in a typical Aldi store, features easily distracted shop worker 'Dave' and showcases the retailer's latest Lacura range. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer, Aldi UK, said: "It's official, we're a nation of fragrance fans. Our research shows shoppers are becoming savvier and increasingly are turning to affordable options that still deliver on quality and scent. "That's why we are excited to launch our latest range of fragrances, offering customers luxury without the premium price tag." As more shoppers hunt for high-end fragrances without the hefty price tag, Aldi is rolling out three new limited-edition Lacura men's scents. The new Lacura Solar Drift, Lacura Classic Edge and Lacura Urban Dusk Eau de Parfum launch in stores nationwide from June 11 for £4.99. Shoppers could save up to 92% compared to premium brands such as Dior, Ralph Lauren, and Hugo Boss. BRITS' TOP 10 BIGGEST FRAGRANCE ICKS 1. Wearing too much perfume/aftershave (37%). 2.
