The group were on a school trip when they were struck by the vehicle near the village of Vogelwaarde, close to the Belgian border, on Thursday, Dutch authorities said. Police detained a 19-year-old man and were investigating his involvement, but did not reveal if he was the driver of the car. Two children and an adult died at the scene, while four children were taken to hospitals in the Netherlands and nearby Belgium with serious injuries. Tragically, one of them died on Thursday evening at a hospital in Rotterdam, the Zeeland Security Region organisation said in a statement. The victims of the crash were part of a group of 14 schoolchildren and two chaperones from an elementary school in the nearby town of Axel. A police probe is now underway to establish cause of the collision on a provincial road that runs between farmers' fields near the small town of Vogelwaarde - around 200 kilometres (125 miles) south of Amsterdam.
