Police investigating shed fire where man's body was found

Tasmania Police investigating two fires after man's body found Fri 12 Jun 2026 at 12:25pm A man's body has been found after a shed fire in southern Tasmania, which police say appears to have been deliberately lit. Emergency services were called to the shed on Prossers Road, Richmond about 6.25am on Friday. "Tasmania Fire Service crews extinguished the fire which was within a 6-metre by 9-metre steel shed adjacent to a main house," Tasmania Police said in a statement. They said a man's body was found inside the the building. "At this stage it is believed the deceased is an adult who frequented the shed on a regular basis. "Investigations are ongoing in relation to the cause of the fire — which is believed to have been deliberately lit — to determine if there are any suspicious circumstances." Police are also investigating a fire on Franklin Street, Richmond, which was reported about 5.50am. They said a small business was damaged by that fire, and the man who died was linked to both properties. Anyone with information in relation to either fire or suspicious activity in the areas, is asked to contact police.
