Huge police cordon in Newcastle city centre as man fights for life in hospital and two teens arrested Two boys aged 16 and 14 have been arrested by cops after a man in his 50s was pushed from his bicycle and suffered serious head injuries Two teenagers have been arrested and a man is fighting for his life in hospital after a serious assault in Newcastle city centre. A man in his 50s was riding his bicycle on the city’s Claremont Road at 5.10pm yesterday, Northumbria Police said, when he was reportedly approached by two people on a moped. One of the people on the moped has then pushed the man from his bike, causing him to fall to the ground, Chronicle Live reports. The man has been taken to hospital for treatment of serious head injuries where he remains in a life-threatening condition. Northumbria Police launched an investigation and two boys – aged 16 and 14 – were later arrested at Walker Park, off Scrogg Road also in Newcastle, on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm. The pair remain in custody as police investigations continue. A section of Claremont Road is currently closed to traffic to allow officers to carry out enquiries while a section of Walker Park also remains closed. Officers investigating the incident are appealing to any witnesses to come forward. Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Claremont Road shortly after 5pm and those who may have dash cam footage. Witnesses, or anyone with information, should send police a direct message on social media or use the live chat and report forms on the Force’s website.
