Urgent recall after milk found in dairy-free chocolate bar sold in UK supermarkets The brand specialises in plant-based and dairy-free chocolate - Bookmark - CommentsGo to comments A chocolate bar sold in major supermarkets including Tesco and Sainsbury’s has been recalled due to an undeclared allergy risk. The Food Standards Agency put out an alert on Thursday after Buttermilk Confections issued a recall of its Honeycomb Blast Choc Bar. The brand, which specialises in plant-based and dairy-free chocolate, put out the alert because the product contains milk, which is not mentioned on the label. Chocolate bars with the batch code BM26105, pack size 45g and best before 15 June 2027, should be returned to the store from where they were bought for a full refund. Customers are advised not to eat the product if they are allergic or intolerant to milk or milk constituents, as it contains casein, the primary protein found in cow’s milk which can trigger an allergic reaction. Cow’s milk allergies tend to be common among babies and young children who usually grow out of them by the time they reach school age, according to Allergy UK. For a small number of people, this allergy persists into adulthood and can lead to severe reactions such as anaphylaxis, the charity warned. Milder or more moderate symptoms can include an itchy mouth, tongue and throat, swollen lips, a red, raised and itchy rash, vomiting and diarrhoea, or even a runny nose and sneezing. These sweet treats retail for £1.60 in Tesco and Sainsbury’s and are also typically sold in alternative food shops. The bar is described as having a “light and crunchy honeycomb enrobed in creamy, plant-based choccy” according to Buttermilk Confections’ website. It won bronze at the Free From Food Awards 2022 in the confectionery category. The company told customers to call 01208 814505 or email [email protected] if they want more information.
