The King's Birthday Honours list has been revealed with several famous sporting names being acknowledged for their contributions
As many as 35 sporting figures have been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours list, including Kevin Sinfield being knighted. As first revealed by the Mirror, rugby league legend Sinfield has finally landed the gong for his heroic fundraising efforts in memory of former team-mate Rob Burrow.
The 45-year-old - who received an MBE in 2014, an OBE in 2021 and a CBE in 2024 - has raised more than £11million for motor neurone disease (MND) charities after Burrow was diagnosed with the muscle-wasting condition in 2019.
They memorably finished the Leeds Marathon together in 2023. Burrow died in June 2024 and Sinfield has continued to take on countless endurance challenges. Other notable sports names on the list include 2005 snooker world champion Shaun Murphy and Team Europe's Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.
They've both been awarded OBEs, while England's Lionesses Michelle Agyemang, Jess Carter, Hannah Hampton, Lauren James, Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo have been made MBEs after successfully defending the Euros last summer.
