Lancashire Police officers, some of them armed, were called at 3.06pm on Friday, June 12, to Wood Street, Brierfield, and found that the 17-year-old had been stabbed in the back of the neck. She was taken to hospital for treatment where her injuries were found not to be life-threatening. She has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home. A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody. Junaid Nawaz, 30, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield – who is British born of Pakistani heritage – has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Monday). A spokesperson for the force previously said that there will be extra patrols in the area and an appeal has been made for anyone with information or footage to get in touch. People have taken to social media to express their shock at what happened in the small town with around 8,000 residents. One person wrote on Facebook: "So glad the girl has no life threatening injuries."
