SA Police charge man over alleged possession of mobile phone gun

South Australian police have arrested two men over the alleged possession of improvised weapons. Police alleged one man had a handgun disguised as a mobile phone and the other a "pen gun". In a statement released today, SA Police said Whyalla officers last week arrested a 45-year-old man with firearms offences after allegedly finding an "improvised firearm". "It is alleged that a handgun disguised to resemble a mobile phone was located in a satchel bag belonging to the occupant," police said in a statement. Police said the man was charged with possessing a firearm without a licence and contravening a firearm prohibition order. He was also charged with a separate aggravated assault matter. He did not apply for bail and was expected to appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court today. 'Homemade pen gun' In an unrelated incident last week, police said a man appeared in court after an alleged shooting incident in Adelaide's southern suburbs involving a "homemade pen gun". In a statement released on Saturday, SA Police said emergency services were called to a home at Nadia Crescent, Christie Downs at about 1:45am on Tuesday, May 19, after reports of a man with a gunshot wound to his leg. The 27-year-old Evanston man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said detectives allegedly seized a homemade "pen gun" from the home. Last week the Evanston man was last week arrested and charged with an aggravated charge of possessing a firearm without a licence. He was refused bail and appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court last week.
