Police have arrested a man in their hunt for the infamous "Putney Pusher".
A jogger was caught on CCTV pushing a woman into the path of a double-decker bus on London’s Putney Bridge in May 2017. The 33-year-old woman escaped serious injury as the oncoming bus swerved into the adjacent lane to avoid hitting her.
On Monday - nearly a decade after the shocking incident - a 44-year-old man was arrested at his home in west London.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said today: "On Monday, 15 June, a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. He was taken to police custody, where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident on 5 May 2017, where a woman was pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in Putney. Inquiries continue."
CCTV footage was released three months after the incident. Officers described the suspect as a white man, aged in his 30s, with brown eyes and short brown hair. The woman saw the jogger running back across the bridge about 15 minutes later and tried in vain to speak to him.
Detectives interviewed over 50 people before closing the case in 2018.
