Onlookers screamed in terror as the 21-year-old graduate jumped at 10am on Saturday, June 13, reportedly without her rope attached. Maria, a sporty young woman who had recently completed a degree in Physical Education and Sports Management, appeared excited for her jump, posting on Instagram mere minutes before her fatal descent. The graduate, remembered by loved ones as having been "full of dreams", joked to followers: "Who was the crazy person who let me come jump off a bridge?" Maria was fitted with a helmet and harness, however, staff at the bungee jumping attraction allegedly 'forgot' to attach a safety cord before throwing her over the edge of 'Skeleton Bridge', located in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil. Haunting footage sees witnesses, a group which included young children, crying out "the rope, people, the rope" as Maria plummeted. Recalling the awful scenes that unfolded, eyewitness Higor Diniz told EPTV: "There were a lot of people there - not just a few. There were many people at the site. There were children there, too, and they saw it happen. "Some of the children were only six years old. It was a very intense scene. People panicked. Some who were farther back grabbed their belongings and started leaving." Tragically, Maria was pronounced dead by emergency responders at the scene, and her body was taken to the Legal Institute for further investigation. Officials have since confirmed that two men fled the scene in the aftermath of the catastrophe and were subsequently located in a nearby woodland. O Globo reports that six people have now been arrested, including the two who absconded. Three people, a 42-year-old, a 27-year-old, and a 32-year-old civilian firefighter, were arrested at the scene and charged with homicide with implied malice. Civil Police are now investigating this incident to determine whether those involved will face criminal charges. Meanwhile, delegate Andrea Dantas Levy told the publication that the bungee jumping firm "didn't even have authorisation to be there", asserting: "They ended up organising this event, and this fatality happened today, in my perception, due to a failure to verify and supervise the placement of the rope on the victim's jump." The three arrested men were reportedly unable to give a reason for the alleged fatal error or explain why final security checks seemingly weren't carried out. As told to G1 by the suspects' legal representatives, staff members had been experienced, and there hadn't been a fatality in years. Tributes have since poured in for Maria, remembered as a "beautiful" young woman by one friend, who wrote on Instagram: "Her mother said her biggest fear was losing one of them just three days ago... When a mother and a family cry, we all cry together." Colleagues at the physical fitness centre Panobianco Academia, where Maria had taught, have marked her passing by suspending all activities during this time of mourning. Her co-workers posted: "Today we said goodbye to a very special person to our Panobianco Silverstone family...Maria Eduarda left her mark through the dedication, affection, joy and respect with which she treated everyone around her.'
