City centre building evacuated as emergency crews descend on street Emergency services, including police, paramedics and five fire engines, descended on the Bridgewater Heights accommodation block on Great Marlborough Street at around 1.15pm following reports of a carbon monoxide leak Students and staff at a Manchester city centre accommodation block were evacuated on Monday afternoon (June 15) as a cordon was erected around the building. Emergency services, including police, paramedics and fire crews, rushed to the Bridgewater Heights accommodation block on Great Marlborough Street at approximately 1.15pm following reports of a carbon monoxide leak. It was confirmed that residents were evacuated while investigations got underway. Bottles of water were visible on the ground outside as both the pavement and entrance were cordoned off. Gas monitors were deployed to check the building, with crews remaining on the scene alongside gas network operator Cadent. Five fire engines descended on the incident, accompanied by numerous police vehicles, reports the Manchester Evening News. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Shortly after 1:15 this afternoon (Monday 15 June), five fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to a carbon monoxide leak at a high rise building on Great Marlborough Street, Manchester. "Firefighters used breathing apparatus and gas monitors to check the building. They are currently working alongside Cadent Gas to make sure the area and residents are safe. Firefighters remain in attendance at this time."
