A bungee-jump instructor who has been charged after a woman was fatally thrown from a bridge to her death once performed a horrifying stunt with a child.
Instructor Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, was charged over the death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, after she was thrown from a 130ft high bridge in Limerira, in Sao Paulo state, Brazil, on Saturday. Footage of the horror incident showed Maria being carried to the edge of an abandoned bridge before being thrown off by two company employees - just moments later it emerged she had plunged without being attached to a rope.
Maria initially survived the fall, but soon died as a result of her injuries. She was buried the following day.
Egoroff, Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, were charged with homicide following Maria's death, according to local news outlets. Employees are also alleged to have fled the scene after Maria was thrown to her death and were located by a helicopter crew shortly afterward.
One horrifying video resurfaced online following Maria's death that showed Egoroff carrying out a jump with a young child at the same bridge. In the clip shared on Instagram on May, 2023, the boy can be seen holding onto Egoroff's neck before the instructor runs along the edge of the bridge and jumps off.
The pair then fell dozens of feet before the video looped. A lawyer representing Egoroff and other employees said the team had years of experience and - until Saturday - had not once had a fatality during their jumps.
Local outlets have claimed the bungee jumping company was unlicensed. An investigation into Maria's death is ongoing.
Moments before the fatal plunge, Maria shared a post to Instagram showing a photo of the bridge, with the caption: "Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge???"
Tributes poured in for the aspiring PE teacher following her death. Her mum said in a post shared to social media: "My beloved daughter, today alone I wanted to hug you more than a thousand times."
Brazilian newspaper Estadao reported she added: "How much your departure hurts me. I love you eternally, my princess. And thank you so much for being a part of my life for these 21 years. What an honor it was to hear you call me mom. God, thank you for this privilege."
