A gunman is at large after a shooting at a hospital in Delaware, according to reports.
An employee at Wilmington Hospital allegedly shot two co-workers shortly before 4pm EDT (9pm BST) on Tuesday, law enforcement officials told ABC News, adding that a manhunt is under way for the suspect. The condition of those injured is not yet known.
The name of the suspect is known to police, and the individual is understood to have been a temporary employee, officials said. Wilmington Police Department has warned that the scene remains active. The hospital is located in the 500 block of West 14th Street.
A text message was sent to hospital employees informing them that two people had been struck by gunfire in the building's basement, NBC10 reports.
The Wilmington Hospital campus is currently on lockdown and the hospital's emergency department is on divert, according to a hospital spokesperson.
"We are working closely with law enforcement and taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and visitors," the spokesperson wrote. "This is an active police investigation for a possible active shooter."
US Senator Chris Coons of Delaware wrote on Facebook: "I’m closely monitoring reports of a shooting at Wilmington Hospital. I’m praying for everyone’s safety, including patients, health care workers, first responders, and law enforcement officers. Please continue to follow updates from local officials."
