Meghan Markle and kids set to return to the UK 'in a matter of weeks' for Prince Harry’s Invictus event The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, will be travelling to Britain in July, as an inside source claims the prince feels ‘great sadness’ over the disconnect with his home country Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to travel to the UK in a matter of weeks to attend a major event ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, are reportedly all making the trip to Britain to attend the event as a family, as an insider claims Harry feels ‘great sadness’ over the disconnection with his home country. While Harry has returned to the UK many times since quitting his royal role in 2020, the trip will be Meghan’s first visit to England since the late Queen’s funeral in 2022. Harry, Meghan and their children will all be making the trip for an event marking the one year countdown to the Birmingham Games, as the Duke has longed to bring his family back to his homeland for many years, reports News.com.au. An insider told the publication: “It’s been a real point of great sadness – for Harry especially – that he’s been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first.” They continued: “He would love to introduce the children to his wider family, to show them the UK, where he grew up – his homeland. That would be a natural thing for any parent.” The Mirror has contacted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson, Invictus Games representatives, and Buckingham Palace for comment. The last time Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, last visited the UK 2022 for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations just months before she died. It is believed this was the first and only time King Charles had met his granddaughter. It is currently unknown whether the Sussexes will reunite with King Charles, or any of the Royal Family, during their visit, as relationships between them remain strained. Harry last saw his father in September last year when he travelled to London for the annual WellChild Awards, of which he is a patron. The Duke travelled to Clarence House for a 50-minute private tea with his father, before he continued with his engagements. The Duke of Sussex has long spoken about wanting to bring his family to the UK, but says the issue of his security detail has been a major hurdle. In May 2025, Harry lost his appeal to reinstate his taxpayer-funded security in the UK, which was replaced with a ‘bespoke’ arrangement after he stepped back as a working royal. In December, it was revealed that the Home Office had decided to review Harry’s police protection despite his court loss. There has yet to be a public update on the outcome of the assessment. During an interview with the BBC last year, Harry said: “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.” And while there has yet to be any update on his review, the inside source told news.com.au that protections have been put in place for the Sussexes’ upcoming visit. They said: “You can be assured that if they are coming [to Britain], then he’s satisfied that the conditions have been met to keep them all as safe as possible.”
