The French Parliament adopted a bill to loosen Electricite de France SA’s grip on the hydropower market, a move aimed at ending a spat with the European Union and unlocking billions of euros in investment for new generation capacity.
The legislation adopted Wednesday stipulates that state-owned EDF, which operates about 20.5 gigawatts of dams across the country representing about 80% of mainland hydropower capacity, will auction 6 gigawatts each year under the supervision of the country’s energy regulator.
