A 14-year-old girl has been left 'shaken' after a hooded man approached her from an alleyway and tried to grab her as she waited for a bus in Clavering, Hartlepool
Police are urgently appealing for CCTV after a schoolgirl was grabbed by a hooded stranger while waiting for her morning bus.
The 14-year-old was approached from an alleyway before a man attempted to grab her, police said, leaving her "shaken".
The schoolgirl was on Bamburgh Road in Clavering, Hartlepool, when the suspect lunged at her shortly after 8am on Wednesday, June 17.
She managed to get away and immediately called her mum who came to meet her and take her home to safety.
The girl is unhurt but, has been left shaken by the incident, police say.
The suspect is described as between 5'5" and 5'11" in height, and was wearing dark clothing and a hoody at the time of the incident.
Cleveland Police says it cannot say from the description what gender or ethnicity the person is at this stage.
Hartlepool District Commander, Acting Superintendent Nick See said: "We understand that undoubtedly, parents will be worried. An area search has been carried out by officers on foot, mobile patrols and with the drone.
"There will be a uniformed police presence throughout the day whilst investigations into this incident continue.
"We are currently liaising with the local schools to ensure that safety measures are in place. Please approach officers patrolling the area if you have information to provide or with any concerns you have."
