The family of matriarch and beloved grandmother Dorthy Kupsis grieved the loss following her death aged 98 - but what was contained inside the urn they ordered left them "grossed out"
A grieving family was left horrified after the urn they ordered from Amazon for their grandmother's ashes contained a grim surprise - their second experience of a human remains horror.
Family matriarch Dorthy Kupsis died aged 98 on May 27 leaving her family heartbroken and looking for a permanent place to keep her ashes. They believed a perfect urn had been found to hold Dorthy's remains and ordered it from Amazon.
The small, heart-shaped urn was meant to honour the beloved grandmother. They noted how the urn appeared to be a pristine vessel and gave no hints that there was anything untoward or unexpected being kept inside.
"When I opened it, it was just a little dusty," Ashleigh Wegner told AZ Family. "I unscrewed the back and that’s when I noticed it still had remains inside of it.
"And that was l like, I have – who are you? I was shocked, I was kind of grossed out. I was uncomfortable."
While the urn appeared to be brand new, the ashes contained within tainted the entire item for the family who felt it would not be a fitting resting place for the Arizona grandmother. Ashleigh has since contacted Amazon about the bizarre issue and was offered a refund.
She also reached out to the third-party seller but did not receive a response. Ashleigh added: "I didn’t want it to end up on the warehouse shelf again and have somebody else make a purchase and have it accidentally get shipped to someone else in a moment like this."
Oddly, the experience was not Ashleigh's first brush with human remains. In a grisly case, she and her husband came across human remains that were abandoned in an alleyway near their home.
"So a few years back, me and my husband came across a box of ashes in an alleyway where we lived," she said. Ashleigh added the family turned the remains over to the sheriff's department, who found the family.
But the family were not interested in them for whatever reason and Ashleigh and her husband spread those ashes in the Arizona mountains.
The Mirror has contacted Amazon for comment.
