Should Harry and Meghan meet with the Royal Family during UK visit? Take our poll and have your say The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to head to Harry’s home country as a family for the first time in four years to attend a major Invictus event in Birmingham Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as their two children, are expected to head to the UK in a matter of weeks to attend a major Invictus Games event. The Duke of Sussex, who founded the Games for injured veterans, is reportedly set to bring his wife and kids, Archie and Lilibet, to Birmingham in mid-July, marking their first family visit to Harry’s home country in almost four years. The last time Meghan was in Britain was for the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022, while Archie and Lilibet last travelled to the UK just months earlier for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Harry, Meghan and their children will all be making the trip for an event marking the one year countdown to the Birmingham Games, as the Duke has longed to bring his family back to his homeland for many years, according to reports from News.com.au. An insider told the publication: “It’s been a real point of great sadness – for Harry especially – that he’s been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first.” They continued: “He would love to introduce the children to his wider family, to show them the UK, where he grew up – his homeland. That would be a natural thing for any parent." It is currently unknown if Harry will reunite with his family, in particular his father King Charles, during the visit, who has spent very little time with his grandchildren. It is believed the 2022 trip for the Jubilee was the first and only time Charles has met Lilibet, who recently celebrated her fifth birthday. Another inside source told the Telegraph: “He has wanted to have his kids meet their grandfather, especially after their summit in London last year. While there have been deep-seated trust issues around Harry, there is a sense now that all parties want peace.” Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family remains strained, as he last saw his father in September last year when he travelled to London for the annual WellChild Awards, of which he is a patron. The Duke travelled to Clarence House for a 50-minute private tea with his father, before he continued with his engagements. Harry has reportedly not seen his brother or sister-in-law, the Prince of Princess of Wales, since the late Queen's funeral, as they remain estranged after the Duke's public jibes at the Firm in the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021, his and Meghan's Netflix docuseries in 2022, and his tell-all memoir Spare in 2023. The Duke of Sussex has long spoken about wanting to bring his family to his home country, but says the issue of his limited security detail has been a major obstacle. In May 2025, Harry lost his appeal to reinstate his taxpayer-funded security in the UK, which was replaced with a ‘bespoke’ arrangement after he stepped back as a working royal. In December, it was revealed that the Home Office had decided to review Harry’s police protection despite his court loss. There has yet to be a public update on the outcome of the assessment. During an interview with the BBC last year, Harry said: “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.” And while there has yet to be any update on his review, the inside source told news.com.au that protections have been put in place for the Sussexes’ upcoming visit." They said: “You can be assured that if they are coming [to Britain], then he’s satisfied that the conditions have been met to keep them all as safe as possible.” Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond previously told the Mirror that resolving the security issue would be one way for Harry to reconcile with his family, as she said: “Security worries lie at the very heart of Harry‘s estrangement from his family here. He has said that the dispute has always been the sticking point in any reconciliation with his father. "I think he is sincere when he talks about wanting his children to know and understand their heritage. And he has said publicly that he wants his father and his brother back in his life. That may still be some way off – particularly where William is concerned – but if he can at least feel he can bring his family here safely, there has to be some hope of reconciliation.”
