San Diego bomb squad swarm Islamic Center and arrest man 'with Nazi flag and suspicious device' The San Diego Police Department is investigating a suspicious device located near an Islamic Centre and have told residents to avoid the area while the incident is unfolding One person has been detained after a Nazi flag and a suspicious canister was found in a vehicle in the US. Police said they are investigating the canister, which was found in the vehicle near the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont, on Thursday, June 18. A bomb squad rushed to the area. San Diego police officers, who were already at the Islamic Center at the time, noticed the vehicle around 11.40am. Officers stopped the vehicle and detained the driver, which is when they saw the Nazi flag and suspicious canister. Officers then requested the Metro Arson Strike Team to respond and evaluate the suspicious item. The Joint Terrorism Task Force was immediately alerted and is working with SDPD, the department said. There is no active threat to the center and the investigation remains ongoing, police said. Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place, while nearby shops were evacuated. The San Diego Police Department wrote in a post on X: "The San Diego Police Department remains on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspicious device located at the intersection of Derrick Drive and Genesee Avenue. "No explosive material was located and at this time there are no active threats to the Islamic Center of San Diego or the surrounding community. "Areas surrounding the incident remain closed pending further investigation and are expected to be impacted for several more hours as detectives continue processing evidence. Please continue to avoid the area when possible and use alternate routes. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this investigation continues."
