Drivers face severe delays of up to two hours on the M25 in Kent after a serious road traffic collision which caused a caravan to overturn.
The collision has caused delays on the clockwise carriageway between J5 and J6 with multiple lanes of traffic closed.
National Highways Traffic Officers are currently dealing with traffic management, the agency has said.
National Highways have predicted that the disruption is due to last for hours more as delays reach up to two hours.
The traffic alert for the incident said: “The event is expected to clear between 15:00 and 15:15”.
However the queues will take longer to clear, the agency said: “Normal traffic conditions are expected between 16:15 and 16:30”.
There are currently delays of up to two hours against expected traffic as three of four lanes remain closed.
Images from motorway traffic cameras show long tailbacks building on the M25 clockwise.
Motorists are being warned that tailbacks are stretching for miles as three lanes have been closed following the incident.
The agency said: "There are severe delays of 90 minutes on the M25 in Kent, clockwise between J5 and J6 due to a collision which has resulted in an overturned caravan.
"Lanes 1,2 and 3 (of 4) lanes are currently closed. National Highways Traffic Officers are dealing with traffic management.
"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
