The Czech prime minister heightened his public criticism of the central bank’s tight monetary policy, saying its latest move to raise interest rates will hurt the economy.
Premier Andrej Babis said there was no reason to increase borrowing costs when Czech inflation is the second lowest in the European Union. He also went further, arguing that monetary policy can’t influence price growth. He spoke one day after the Czech National Bank lifted borrowing costs for the first time in four years to suppress domestic price pressures.
