Prince William has revealed the sweet and wholesome hobby that his children enjoy while away from the public eye. The Prince of Wales travelled to Devon yesterday for a visit to the Apricot Centre in Dartington, where he learned about the farming processes at the carbon-negative farm and discussed regenerative farming methods.
Speaking after his visit, managing director Rachel Phillips shared that they'd also discussed growing fruit and vegetables at their home in Norfolk with his three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight. However, he added that he has to stop his eager kids from eating all their fresh produce.
Rachel said: "He was quite impressed with our strawberries and was telling me in Norfolk his children grow strawberries, raspberries, and lettuce and have a small kitchen garden. He was asking me how we grew them, and we talked about how we stop our children eating them all."
It is believed William was referring to Anmer Hall: the family's 10-bedroom Norfolk retreat, where they often spend the school holidays together. Kate previously revealed that Louis has grown broad beans at school, while she reportedly has potatoes in her back garden.
Home growing produce is something that the Wales children have in common with their cousins, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who live in California.
Their mother, Meghan Markle, previously revealed that her children grow "a lot of veggies" at their Montecito home, even staging a "little farmer's market stand".
Elsewhere during the visit to the regenerative farm, William came across one of the resident farm animals, surveying a large ginger pig with black spots, named Ginger Spice, who lives with fellow pigs named after the other Spice Girls.
Throughout the tour, the future king asked the team questions around the impact of climate change and extreme weather events on crop growth. His visit highlighted his interest and objectives in the transition to net zero, in line with his Duchy of Cornwall’s target of becoming net zero across the estate by 2032.
The heir to the throne was taken round the 120-acre farm on Thursday, visiting the food packaging section of the site, where lettuce was being added to bundles of fresh produce destined for direct customers, market sales and local food banks.
The prince also headed to the strawberry patch, where he sampled one of the fruit, after admitting he had already been “eyeing up” the strawberries and raspberries in the packaging area.
