Meghan Markle's fashion faux pas during royal tour that was spotted by eagle-eyed fans The Duchess of Sussex turned heads on the 2018 royal tour when fans spotted a dress label still attached to her £380 Self Portrait gown as she and Prince Harry arrived in Tonga When Meghan Markle wed into the Royal Family in 2018, she was no stranger to red carpets and public engagements thanks to her years working as an actress. Yet when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on an overseas royal tour just months following their fairytale wedding, Meghan encountered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction. In October 2018, the royal newlyweds jetted to Tonga as part of their 16-day tour spanning Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and other Pacific Islands. Meghan and Harry stepped off their aircraft at Fua'amotu Airport, with Meghan sporting a vibrant red £380 Self Portrait dress with long sleeves and a flowing skirt. The brightly hued frock drew the eye of numerous royal watchers, though not for the right reasons. The garment still had a label dangling from inside the skirt, visible just below the hemline, which stayed on display for no less than five minutes while the Duke and Duchess strolled along the tarmac. The style blunder left several followers online gobsmacked, with some jokingly suggesting that perhaps Meghan had purposely kept the tag attached in hopes of returning the pristine dress once the occasion had concluded. Others questioned why her entourage had neglected to flag up the glaring problem before she descended from the aircraft, given the assumption that Meghan would have had a team of stylists and aides aboard the plane. At the time of their royal tour, Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins came to Meghan's defence over the blunder, insisting it was "easily done" and could well have gone unnoticed, as labels are often tucked away in different spots in women's clothing and aren't always simple to locate. She said: "It's easily done, you put it on and you forget. They put labels in all different places; sometimes it's in the back, sometimes it's in the bottom, sometimes it's in the sleeve." Just two months prior to the awkward overseas incident, Meghan endured another rather unfortunate wardrobe mishap when she and Prince Harry rocked up to the wedding of Harry's close friend Charlie van Straubenzee. Making their way to the village of Frensham in Surrey, Harry and Meghan mixed with fellow wedding guests outside St Mary the Virgin church ahead of the ceremony, which happened to fall on Meghan's 37th birthday. Dressed in a £400 Club Monaco navy blue short-sleeved dress, the Duchess of Sussex accidentally missed a button and inadvertently flashed her bra while waving to well-wishers. She kept her composure, swiftly covering up before flashing a cheeky grin towards the waiting photographers.
