Four people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, including the 12-year-old boy, police said. He was treated for life-threatening injuries but died at the scene. Three other people, aged 20, 22 and 19, were transported to Cairns Hospital and were in a stable condition. The road was closed in both directions as investigators worked at the scene.
