New CCTV released in Southampton Common murder probe after man, 45, found dead near fire Police have released CCTV of a woman seen walking her dog as detectives issued a fresh appeal, saying she may hold information that could help their investigation into the death of Ernest Konrad Deputat Police have released new CCTV as part of a murder investigation into the death of a man whose body was found on a nature reserve. Detectives are trying to trace a woman seen walking a dog on Southampton Common, saying she may hold information that could assist their enquiries. The fresh appeal comes after the remains of 45-year-old Ernest Konrad Deputat were discovered at Ornamental Lake on Southampton Common on October 8. Officers said there were signs of a significant fire at the scene and immediately launched a murder investigation. Two men who were arrested in connection with the investigation have since been released on bail. The force believe Mr Deputat, a Polish national, had been living off-grid on the common and was known among Southampton’s homeless community. Releasing the new CCTV image, Hampshire Police said: “We believe the woman in this image, who was seen walking a dog on Southampton Common on the morning of Saturday 6 September, might be able to help us. "We would urge her, or anyone who knows her identity, to please get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity. It is possible that this woman has already been previously spoken to by investigators. However, as part of new information received and further developments in our investigation, we would like to speak to her once more. “If you were also in the area of Southampton Common on the morning of Saturday 6 September, please get in contact with us. We are particularly keen to hear from any dog walkers who are still yet to come forward. “No matter how small or insignificant you think the information may be, it could be key to our investigation. To speak to us, please call 101 and quote incident number 44250456238. You can also report online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.” Shortly after his death, Mr Deputat’s family described him as a “modest, but dream-filled brother and son” whose humour and warmth made every meeting memorable. They said: “Ernest, you were a modest, but dream-filled brother and son. Every meeting with you was unforgettable. "Your smile, accompanying humour and the lightness, with which you conducted the conversation, made people want to be with you. The whole family always missed you and were waiting for you, waiting for your arrival. "You chose the life you wanted; you were both the ship and the captain for yourself. Be happy now. We thank you for all the fulfilled moments, for every phone call, for every sign that you remembered us. See you soon, your Family.”
